AJO President 9th Police Unity Tour Fund Raiser
May 20th
Under clear blue skies, Andy O’Connor, President of AJO, participated in his ninth annual ride this month.
Says Andy, “This was the best weather I can recall. Plus, we had limited injuries, a record of 1400 riders and a record donation of S1.5 million in support of NLEOM.”
Of special note this year was a detour in New York. The riders stopped at Ground Zero to commemorate the tenth anniversary of 9/11.
Each year, the ride culminates in a candlelight vigil. On the evening of Friday May 13th, 20,000 people gathered to pay tribute to police officers who have died. This included a large contingent of family members whose loved ones were memorialized on the wall this year. Every name has a story and the commemoration makes for a very emotional evening.
A Message to Andy’s Sponsors
“Many thanks for your continued support and encouragement. Your generosity makes the 300 mile ride seem like a casual outing on a sunny day.” - Andy O'Connor.
Of course, many of us are wondering if Andy is planning to go for a tenth ride next year. Stay tuned to find out!
